I recently read a blog post by Patricio Robles about whether or not the subscription commerce boom was over. The article focused quite a bit on the subscription box industry.
Of course, the arguable industry-leader Birchbox was discussed. I think the $500M valuation of Birchbox has gone a long way to skewing the expectations of many subscription box entrepreneurs. Many see a makeup subscription box like Birchbox raise over $70M and think it will be simple….and that is just not true.
However, I do think it is feasible that an entrepreneur could make a nice supplemental income, or perhaps support their family from a niche subscription box. It simply comes down to expectations. If you just want a side hustle that can provide a little extra cash then there is nothing wrong with making the effort. Just make no mistake….there will be effort. But there will also be rewards!
